Former Director of Research and Collaborative Research at Télécom Paris, Patrick Duvaut will now take over from Godefroy Beauvallet who joined the cabinet of Minister Christophe Sirugue at the start of 2017.
Patrick Duvaut boasts 20 years of international experience (in the USA, Japan, China, India and France) in the field of innovation, having been an entrepreneur and a professional in digital technology (Analytics, IoT, Platforms, Uses and Markets) in large firms and start-ups alike.
He directed the development of advanced technologies at American company Globespan (NJ) between 2000 and 2008, where one of his patents opened up a market of $300M to the Japanese firm Soft Bank, as an internet access provider in Japan.
The new Director of Innovation at IMT also launched and was CTO of several start-ups, including: KURTOSIS (Predictive Maintenance and Security of sensitive facilities and organizations); and QAMLAB (QUANT solutions for asset management).
Patrick Duvaut graduated from ENS Cachan, and then became an Agrégé in Physics, with a PhD in Statistics and a Post-Doctorate from MIT (Boston, USA). He has held professorships in France and the USA in the field of statistical processing of signals and data. He has 67 patents (USPTO), 3 of which are global standards. He has also written 3 books and over 150 articles.
On taking up his position, Patrick Duvaut has launched several “crowd innovation” projects with the aim of restoring the control of data to citizens as well as getting them a fair return on sharing their data and knowledge (Fair Return on Shared Data), in the context of “situational business models”. This was all carried out in accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
“Working closely with the schools and the Research and Innovation Directorate at IMT, my main aims will be to define innovation strategy and activate levers for the operational implementation of catalytic innovation. Catalytic innovation is a key defining feature of IMT and perfectly dovetails the strengths of teaching, research, transfer, our incubators, platforms and living-labs, responding to industrial and global socio-economic demands, in light of the major transformations of the 21st century: digital, industrial, energy-urban-ecological, economic-social-educational and health.”
