Conference | Smooth shading, AKA Gouraud shading

Henri Gouraud holds an engineering degree from École Centrale (1967) and a PhD from the University of Utah (1971). While working on his PhD thesis, he developed a technique which has been called “Gourad shading” ever since and which paved the way for realistic rendering techniques for synthesized images. Fifty years later, this technique is still used for its simplicity and performance qualities even if tremendous progress in realism has been made since then.
