Jean-Christophe Baudez, new Director of Science at Institut Mines-Telecom

,

Jean-Christophe Baudez has been appointed Director of Science at Institut Mines-Telecom. He takes over from Jean-Philippe Lagrange.

Jean-Christophe Baudez is an engineer with the Corps of Bridges, Waters and Forests, and a doctor of environmental sciences. He worked at Cemagref (now Irstea) and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) before joining IMT Nord Europe as Director of Research and Innovation from 2018 to 2022.

During his five years at IMT Nord Europe, he and his teams structured and organized research at the new school born from the merger of Mines and Telecom. The school went from 10 departments to three centers, and research indicators increased by 30%. For example, contractual resources increased from €5.7 million in 2017 to €8.1 million in 2021. The Armines joint center’s situation has improved, going from a €1 million shortfall in 2015 and 2017 to a €1 million surplus from 2018 to 2020.

Along with the Director of Research at Centrale Lille, he has set up a vice president of research position at the Conférence Régionale des Grandes Ecoles (CRGE).

While he firmly believed in the Mines-Telecom identity, he nevertheless left IMT Nord Europe to follow his partner in her new position but insisted on staying at Institut Mines-Telecom by joining the general management team as Director of Science.
