On February 5, the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR) published its mid-term review of the Horizon Europe program (2021-2024), reaffirming the strategic position of IMT within the European research and innovation ecosystem.
With €36 million in secured funding, IMT ranks as the 14th largest French beneficiary and the 2nd leading academic institution in France, just behind Sorbonne University (€62.3M).
This achievement highlights IMT’s ability to attract European funding to develop large-scale projects and contribute to major societal and industrial transformations.
A recognition for IMT in the French and European Ecosystem
IMT stands among the top French academic beneficiaries of the Horizon Europe program, confirming its role as a key player in research and innovation.
“This success is the result of the strong commitment of researchers from IMT’s Technological Universities to strategic projects, as well as the high quality of collaborations with European academic and industrial partners. It also reflects the essential work of the European project officers within IMT’s institutions, who support the structuring and development of ambitious European projects,” explains Marc Delage, Head of the Europe and International R&D Unit at IMT.
Within the French research landscape, IMT stands alongside major research organizations such as CNRS (the top European beneficiary with €658M), CEA (3rd with €452.8M), and INSERM (18th with €195.5M). Among companies, Safran (€108M), Thales (€89.2M), and Airbus (€70.1M) are also key players in the program.

Strengthening Momentum
While France currently ranks as the 2nd largest beneficiary of Horizon Europe, behind Germany, the Ministry emphasizes the need to further boost academic sector participation. IMT is committed to playing a leading role in this effort by increasing project coordination and expanding its impact within the European research ecosystem.
Through this strategic positioning, IMT continues to leverage its teams’ expertise to address tomorrow’s scientific and technological challenges while enhancing the visibility of French research on a European scale.
