This year, Alexandra Vallet, researcher at Mines Saint-Étienne, has been awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant for her project exploring how blood vessel pulsations in the brain influence the transport and elimination of neurotoxic proteins.
This distinction once again reflects IMT’s commitment to cutting-edge research serving society’s needs and shaping major transformations together.
High-level European recognition
A benchmark at European level, European Research Council (ERC) grants support exploratory research projects aimed at advancing fundamental knowledge. This funding is awarded solely on the basis of scientific excellence.
Alexandra Vallet takes the pulse of the brain

The fluid surrounding our brain oscillates in rhythm with our body’s pulsations. Studying this dynamic offers a new perspective on the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases — and on how the mechanical properties and fluid–structure interactions within the brain influence its health and ageing.
A new ERC Plus programme to support scientific ambition
The President of the ERC recently announced the creation of a new programme: ERC Plus. This scheme, open to researchers at all career stages with no age criteria, will be launched next summer. It will offer funding of up to €7 million over a period of four to seven years to support research projects with high potential impact.
Six ERC projects led by IMT since 2021
Since 2021, IMT has had six ERC laureates in key areas such as health, digital technology, artificial intelligence and industry. These distinctions reflect the excellence and international recognition of IMT’s scientific communities.
