Doctor in molecular biophysics and expert in communication and branding strategies, Karine Wecker has been appointed Director of Communications and Marketing at IMT as of 1 September 2026. Her background, which combines research, higher education, innovation and strategic communications, will help to strengthen the attractiveness, influence and development ambitions of France’s leading public group of engineering and management technological universities.

For more than 25 years, Karine Wecker has combined scientific excellence, innovation, business relations and strategic communication, with a constant focus on creating bridges between research, academia, the business world and society.

As France’s first public group of engineering and management technological universities, IMT brings together eight leading schools and two subsidiaries across the country. With a history spanning more than two centuries of service to France’s economic, industrial and technological development, it trains the talent of tomorrow, produces knowledge and innovation, supports the competitiveness of businesses and contributes to meeting the major challenges of the digital, industrial, energy and environmental transitions, as well as to strengthening France’s and Europe’s technological sovereignty.

Karine Wecker’s career path reflects this convergence between science, education, innovation and the business world.

Doctor of Science from the Pierre and Marie Curie University (now Sorbonne University), Karine Wecker spent more than 15 years in research and higher education at major French research organisations and institutions (CNRS, Inserm, Institut Pasteur, René Descartes University, now Université Paris Cité). A specialist in HIV, she is the author of numerous scientific publications and international presentations.

She joined the CNRS headquarters in 2011 and held several responsibilities in the field of industrial partnerships, the commercialisation of public research results and communication within the Innovation and Business Relations Department, eventually becoming Deputy Director. She created and ran the Network of Partner Companies and helped develop many strategic partnerships involving public research, businesses and innovation stakeholders.

In 2013, she became Head of Innovation and Business Relations Communications within the Communications Department, contributing to increasing the visibility of innovation activities among economic, institutional and academic stakeholders.

Appointed Deputy Director of Communications in 2017, Karine Wecker supports the positioning, reputation and influence strategies of France’s leading public research organisation in a particularly demanding national and international environment.

Since 2023, Karine Wecker has been the Director of Branding and Communications at the University of Paris-Saclay. As a member of the President’s team, the crisis management team and the governing bodies, she has been responsible for the university’s branding and communications strategy, contributing to its national and international visibility and reputation and supporting it through a period of major institutional transformation.

As part of this appointment, Karine Wecker will be responsible for defining and implementing the communication and marketing strategy of IMT. She will contribute to strengthening its attractiveness, influence and visibility in France and internationally, by highlighting the excellence of its technological universities, research and partnerships. She will thus support the development and influence of the IMT, which is committed to serving the cause of technological sovereignty and the various transitions.

‘I have always believed that major advances are the result of bringing together two worlds that are still too often seen as separate: research and innovation, academic excellence and economic impact, science and society. This ability to build bridges is at the heart of IMT’s project. At a time when the digital, industrial, energy and environmental transitions are profoundly reshaping our societies, joining IMT represents an opportunity to contribute to the project of a major player in higher education, research and innovation. I am delighted to be joining a group that puts science, training and innovation at the service of the general interest, economic development and technological sovereignty.’ Karine Wecker, Director of Communications and Marketing

‘IMT, a unique player in higher education, research and innovation, with a long-standing relationship with the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, occupies a unique position in the French landscape: that of a group of top-tier business schools that are deeply committed to working with businesses. Karine Wecker’s background, which combines recognised expertise in research, innovation, partnerships with businesses and communications, is a major asset in helping us achieve our ambition: to make this uniqueness more widely known, to highlight the contribution of our schools to the economic, industrial and technological development of the country, and to strengthen the reputation of IMT and its technological universities in France and internationally.’ Cécile Dubarry, IMT Executive President.
