From 16 to 19 April 2026, more than 2,000 students from 13 engineering schools gathered in Nancy for the 51st edition of the Cartel, one of France’s largest student sporting events.
Organised this year by students from Mines Nancy, the event brought together engineering schools for four days of sporting competitions, celebrations and collective initiatives. With 17 disciplines represented — including rugby, ultimate frisbee, swimming, athletics, handball, basketball and climbing — the Cartel remains a flagship event in student and campus life each year.
Once again, IMT’ Technological Universities stood out in the competition, with three schools securing places on the final podium: IMT Mines Alès, Mines Saint-Étienne and IMT Mines Albi. This emblematic event highlights the values of teamwork, collective commitment and self-improvement championed across IMT.
IMT Mines Alès wins Cartel 2026
The overall winner of this 51st edition, IMT Mines Alès claimed another title and confirmed its historic position in the competition with a 34th overall victory.
Students from IMT Mines Alès achieved an impressive medal tally: 12 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. The school praised the commitment of its athletes, student associations and all students involved throughout the event.






Mines Saint-Étienne takes second place
Students from Mines Saint-Étienne finished in second place after four intense days of competition.
L’école s’est distinguée dans de nombreuses disciplines avec plusieurs titres en natation, relais, cross et basket masculin, ainsi que des podiums en escalade, handball, rugby, tennis ou encore ultimate. Fidèle à la tradition, le Prix de l’ambiance est également revenu aux stéphanoises et stéphanois, récompensant l’énergie et le soutien des supporters tout au long de la compétition.
The school excelled across many disciplines, securing several titles in swimming, relay races, cross-country and men’s basketball, as well as podium finishes in climbing, handball, rugby, tennis and ultimate frisbee. True to tradition, the Atmosphere Award also went to students from Mines Saint-Étienne, recognising the energy and support of their fans throughout the competition.






IMT Mines Albi completes the podium
With an excellent third-place finish overall, IMT Mines Albi confirmed its consistency at the highest level, securing its third podium finish in four years.
Students from IMT Mines Albi performed strongly in both team and individual events, showcasing the team spirit and collective engagement that drive student life at the school.
Special mention also goes to IMT Mines Albi Alumni graduates, winners of the pétanque tournament — congratulations to them!






Strong performances across IMT schools
All IMT’ Technological Universities taking part in the 2026 edition — including IMT Atlantique, IMT-BS, Télécom Paris and Télécom SudParis — proudly represented their schools in an atmosphere combining competition, conviviality and team spirit.












The school will also host the 2027 edition of the Cartel in Douai.
IMT Nord Europe also delivered several outstanding performances, including a gold medal in women’s basketball, as well as bronze medals in men’s football, women’s handball, men’s basketball and athletics.
Beyond the sporting achievements, the Cartel des Mines remains a landmark event in student life. It highlights student engagement, organisational skills and the strength of collective action.
