Yann Busnel, new Scientific Director of IMT

IMT is pleased to announce the appointment of Yann Busnel as Scientific Director, effective from October 1, 2024. With several years’ experience at IMT, in particular at IMT Atlantique and IMT Nord Europe, Yann Busnel will be in charge of developing and implementing the group’s scientific strategy. Among other tasks, he will be responsible for supporting inter-school initiatives: dissertation programs, the IMT PhD as well as the activities of the 11 scientific communities.

Yann Busnel is deeply committed to the values of public service and has over 15 years’ experience in research and higher education. Since June 2023, he has held the position of Director of Research and Innovation at IMT Nord Europe, where he has steered all research and innovation activities in line with lMT’s strategic objectives.

Previously, Yann Busnel spent six years as a full professor at IMT Atlantique in charge of a department in which he oversaw the academic program and research activity on the Rennes campus. Before this, he was Head of the Academic and Research Department at ENSAI in Rennes, where he directed the school’s activities in information technology and managed the department’s budget.

In his new role, Yann Busnel will be in charge of developing and steering the group’s scientific strategy, in cooperation with the schools and relevant outside institutions and in accordance with the IMT 2023-2027 strategy. He will be tasked with coordinating the various PhD academic programs and the institution’s own PhD. He will facilitate and guide the work shared between the 11 scientific groups within the group’s schools. Yann Busnel will strengthen the group’s visibility in major R&D programs, including nationally with France 2030, European initiatives such as Horizon Europe as well as internationally, and will contribute to maintaining IMT’s position within academic and economic ecosystems. He will also ensure that the Scientific Advisory Board is fully involved in defining and implementing research orientations.
