IMT Launches France 6G: A New Platform to Unite the National Ecosystem Around 6G

On November 5, during the event “Challenges and Perspectives on the Future of Telecommunications Networks,” IMT unveiled the roadmap for France 6G—the national coordination platform dedicated to research, innovation, and standardization for next-generation networks. Its mission: to bring together France’s key players and enhance their influence in the European and global race toward 6G.

A Strategic Hub Connecting Innovation and Standardization

France 6G positions itself as a permanent collaborative platform, open to major corporations, SMEs, mid-sized enterprises, startups, research labs, clusters, and institutional stakeholders.

Its core missions :

  • Facilitate dialogue between innovators and standardization specialists
  • Share critical insights on public policies, funding opportunities, and emerging technology trends
  • Coordinate French contributions to standardization bodies
  • Support stakeholders involved in European initiatives, notably the JU SNS program

Structuring and Amplifying National Momentum

France 6G aims to strengthen France’s role in shaping future 6G technologies. Building on the 5G and Future Networks acceleration strategy, it seeks to :

  • Boost participation in major European R&D programs
  • Maximize the impact of French contributions to international standards
  • Foster collective momentum in close partnership with the Digital Infrastructure CSF (Strategic Committee for Industrial Sectors)

Concrete Actions Rolling Out from November 2025

The platform is moving into action with :

  • Expert working groups tasked with publishing white papers by March 2026
  • A focus group exploring new levers of influence in standardization
  • A series of technical and environmental workshops on key topics: sovereignty, resilience, NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks), native AI, and intelligent surfaces
  • A nationwide network of regional coordinators

An Annual Showcase for French 6G Leadership

To amplify France’s voice and visibility, an annual conference will be launched, in synergy with major European events such as MWC and EUCNC. This will serve as a key platform for highlighting national technologies, projects, and contributions.

A Technology Roadmap Aligned with 6G Priorities

France 6G is built around strategic technological pillars deemed essential for future networks:

  • NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks)
  • Cybersecurity and resilience
  • Reconfigurable surfaces and smart antennas
  • Native AI
  • JCAS (Joint Communication and Sensing)

These focus areas will guide national R&D efforts and future contributions to international standards.e R&D et les futures contributions à la standardisation.

A Driver of Sovereignty and Transition

Aligned with France 2030 and key European initiatives, the platform enhances France’s capacity to develop sovereign hardware and software solutions in support of the digital, industrial, and ecological transitions.

Hakima Chaouchi, Head of “Digital Sovereignty and Efficiency” at IMT:
“With the France 6G platform, we are entering a critical operational phase. This initiative brings the ecosystem together around foundational technologies and empowers stakeholders to scale up their contributions to European innovation and standardization.”
