LInstitut Mines-Télécom and Académie des Sciences are proud to announce the winners of the 2024 IMT – Académie des Sciences Awards.

  • The IMT – Académie des Sciences Grand Prize is awarded to Patrice Abry for his outstanding contributions to complex signal analysis.
  • The Young Scientist Award goes to Elsa Dupraz for her innovative research into channel coding, aimed at improving the efficiency of telecommunications and computing systems.

2024 IMT – Académie des Sciences Awards

The IMT – Académie des Sciences Awards, supported by Fondation Mines-Télécom, honor researchers whose work has led to major scientific breakthroughs, supporting the digital and energy transformation, as well as digital sovereignty and energy sobriety.

The 2024 edition highlighted pioneering work in cybersecurity and statistical signal processing, with notable advances in multi-scale analysis of web traffic. It also recognized research into the optimization of computing systems and data storage, key topics for the digital and energy transformation.

IMT-Académie des Sciences Grand Prize: Patrice Abry

Patrice Abry, Director of Research at the CNRS at ENS Lyon, received the Grand Prize for his research into complex signal analysis and scale invariance. His work on web traffic, in partnership with Darryl Veitch, helped optimize servers and detect cyberattacks. As a recognized expert, he applies his knowledge to natural and artificial systems, with a significant impact on cybersecurity and modeling physiological rhythms.

“I would like to thank the Académie des Sciences and Institut Mines-Télécom for this prestigious award, which highlights my body of work based on methodological developments in multi-scale analysis, applied to web traffic modeling, cybersecurity and physiological rhythms.

I want to take this opportunity to thank my teachers, collaborators and PhD students, who throughout this adventure of almost 30 years, have contributed to building this body of work at the intersection between disciplines, without thematic or geographical frontiers.

I would also like to express my deep gratitude to the CNRS, which, in the Physics Laboratory of the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, has given me the freedom and means to build a long-term approach, constantly and simultaneously interweaving disciplinary questions that are oriented, I hope, towards the complex problems of our contemporary societies.”

IMT – Académie des Sciences Young Scientist Award: Elsa Dupraz

Elsa Dupraz, associate professor at IMT Atlantique, was honored for her research into channel coding, essential for improving data transmission and reducing energy consumption. As a pioneer in the field of DNA storage, her work opens up new prospects for data centers.

“I am deeply grateful to Institut Mines-Télécom and the Académie des Sciences for this prestigious award, which recognizes my research into error-correcting codes and optimizing energy consumption in various fields.

I would also like to thank my PhD students, postdocs and colleagues at IMT Atlantique and Lab-STICC, as well as my collaborators in France and abroad, with whom I have been lucky enough to carry out this exciting research. This award highlights the quality and vitality of the French research ecosystem, which fosters scientific innovation.”
