{"id":9481,"date":"2025-11-07T09:52:28","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T08:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/hackathon-tinnov-du-brgm-une-aventure-dinnovation-ouverte-a-redecouvrir\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T12:17:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T11:17:28","slug":"tinnov-hackathon-by-brgm-a-journey-into-open-innovation-to-rediscover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/en\/tinnov-hackathon-by-brgm-a-journey-into-open-innovation-to-rediscover\/","title":{"rendered":"TInnov Hackathon by BRGM: A Journey into Open Innovation to (Re)Discover"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On September 22\u201323, 50 participants\u2014including undergraduate students from the Orl\u00e9ans University Institute of Technology (IUT), learners and interns from IMT, PhD candidates, and IMT R&amp;D engineers\u2014gathered in Orl\u00e9ans for a new edition of the TInnov Hackathon hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brgm.fr\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BRGM <\/a>(French Geological and Mining Research Bureau), co-organized this year with IMT through its scientific community on \u201cRenewable Energies and Resources.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The challenge?<\/strong> In just 30 hours, mixed teams (IMT \u2013 Orl\u00e9ans IUT) had to imagine the innovations of tomorrow, all focused on a key issue: <strong>the subsurface and energy transition<\/strong>\u2014covering themes like energy storage, green hydrogen, subsurface multifunctionality, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than just a competition, TInnov created a dynamic, supportive environment to learn, share, experiment, and collaborate. Supported by around 30 professionals\u2014industry representatives, experts from BRGM and IMT, and AKTAN innovation coaches\u2014teams tackled real-world problems with the freedom to unleash their creativity.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How did it unfold ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants followed an intensive program blending creativity, strategic thinking, and hands-on application, interspersed with keynote talks and moments of conviviality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Day 1 :<\/strong> Topic immersion, research, brainstorming, challenge selection, ideation, and assessment of technical and economic feasibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Day 2:<\/strong> Rapid prototyping, pitch writing, and final presentations before a jury.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And the winners are\u2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The jury was evenly split between industry professionals (50%) and participants (50%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20250923_Hackathon-BRGM.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20250923_Hackathon-BRGM.webp 1000w, https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20250923_Hackathon-BRGM-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20250923_Hackathon-BRGM-768x576.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1st Prize :<\/strong> A project on green hydrogen, co-mentored by Guillaume Junqua (IMT Mines Al\u00e8s) and Eric Serris (Mines Saint-\u00c9tienne).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20250923_Hackathon-BRGM-2.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20250923_Hackathon-BRGM-2.webp 1000w, https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20250923_Hackathon-BRGM-2-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.imt.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20250923_Hackathon-BRGM-2-768x576.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2nd Prize :<\/strong> A project on recovering waste heat from the subsurface, co-mentored by Souria Hamidouche (IMT Nord Europe).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A transformative experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThis was a truly enriching experience. It deepened my knowledge of green hydrogen and let me apply my technical expertise to our project. I\u2019m honored to share that our team won first place.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 <em>Mel Huaman Matos, 2nd-year engineering student, IMT Atlantique<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cOver the two days, we exchanged ideas, combined skills, and learned so much from the BRGM experts and fellow participants. The atmosphere was both focused and collaborative\u2014perfect for sparking creativity.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 <em>Na\u00efka Laur\u00e8ne Bogne, engineering student, IMT Mines Albi<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe topics were diverse yet coherent. Even though they were complex, the dedicated briefing material and the almost full-time availability of experts made them approachable. Having both a technical expert and a coach constantly present helped keep ideas realistic. Mixing students from IUT and IMT brought valuable complementarity, though there was a noticeable gap in maturity and synthesis abilities between less and more experienced participants.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 <em>Felix Degorce, intern, Mines Saint-\u00c9tienne (also an engineering student at ENSAM)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe contest concept is excellent\u2014it lets students and experts from diverse backgrounds confront ideas and collaborate on real-world challenges. The topics were relevant, the team sizes were ideal, and expert support was a real asset.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 <em>Josu\u00e9 Madama Malende, PhD candidate, Mines Saint-\u00c9tienne<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cTInnov gave me the chance to meet key players in innovation and understand their roles. I also gained insight into the hurdles\u2014and the levers\u2014of innovation, all in a spirit of teamwork.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 <em>Nastasia Smeets, R&amp;D engineer, IMT Mines Al\u00e8s<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe hackathon organized by IMT, BRGM and the Orl\u00e9ans IUT was a great experience. We worked as a team to develop an innovative idea on subsurface energy challenges. The two days were intense and full of learning, with inspiring talks and networking. I mentored a team developing an innovative project addressing subsurface issues, bridging technological innovation with social impact. It was also a great opportunity to showcase our research center\u2019s expertise and share updates on the GEOTER project, which ties in closely with TInnov\u2019s themes.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 <em>Souria Hamidouche, research professor, IMT Nord Europe<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cTInnov is a living example of what happens when science, creativity and collective boldness converge. In just two days, ideas, collaborations, and even new vocations emerge.
