This membership will enable IMT to mobilise the expertise of its scientific communities and to develop new European partnerships around sustainable water management.

One Water Alliance, a European alliance to build the future of water in Europe

IMT joins One Water Alliance, a European alliance that brings together 140 organisations from research, higher education, industry and innovation ecosystems. Launched in 2026, the alliance takes an integrated approach to the water cycle, from rivers to oceans.

Its ambition is to pool European expertise in order to strengthen the resilience of water systems and contribute to a future where water resources are managed in a more sustainable and secure way.

One Water Alliance promotes exchanges between its members, networking of expertise and the development of common responses to European project calls.

Water, a cross-cutting theme for research at IMT

This ambition is directly in line with the research conducted in IMT Technological Universities. Water resource management and monitoring, industrial wastewater treatment, adaptation to water stress, risk management, nature-based solutions, contaminant characterisation, artificial intelligence, simulation and digital twins: the IMT teams are bringing together complementary expertise in the field of water resources.

This work addresses environmental, industrial and territorial issues.

Water is indeed an essential resource for ecosystems, but also for many industrial and energy activities. Its availability, quality and management are becoming increasingly important in the context of climate change and resource scarcity.

A contribution from the RM2C and ENR2 IMT scientific communities

The participation of IMT in One Water Alliance is based in particular on the scientific community ‘Risks, Environment and Climate Change’ (RM2C). Eric Duviella, the RM2C community leader, represents IMT within One Water Alliance. RM2C, the latest scientific community created within the IMT, has a strong focus on the resilience of water resources and environmental systems.

These issues also mobilise the scientific community ‘Renewable Energy and Resources’ (ENR2), particularly in terms of the interactions between water, energy and resources.

This complementarity allows for the cross-fertilisation of disciplines and approaches, with a common ambition: to better understand water systems and develop solutions adapted to environmental, industrial and territorial challenges.

Developing new European cooperation

By joining One Water Alliance, IMT wants to put its expertise at the service of a collective European dynamic.

This membership should, in particular, enable the Institute to strengthen exchanges with the other members of the alliance, to favour the sharing of knowledge and to contribute to the emergence of new European research projects.

It is also part of a broader dynamic of strengthening the IMT’s participation in European research and innovation ecosystems.

Faced with increasing pressure on natural resources, combining expertise and cross-disciplinary approaches is essential to build more resilient systems and contribute to shaping the water-based Europe of tomorrow.

IMT has joined One Water Alliance, which now brings together 140 organisations around a common goal: to strengthen the resilience of European water systems.
