Following on from the strategic agreement signed in 2025 between the Institut Mines-T\u00e9l\u00e9com (IMT) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), an Australian delegation was welcomed on 18 and 19 May 2026 to IMT Nord Europe on its Douai campus and then to the Fondation Mines-T\u00e9l\u00e9com in Paris. This working visit marks a new stage in the development of academic and scientific cooperation between the two institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formalised last year<\/a>, the partnership between IMT and UTS<\/a> aims to strengthen international collaboration in key areas such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, energy, the environment and responsible innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement notably provides for the development of joint research projects, student and academic mobility schemes \u2013 particularly joint supervision of PhD theses \u2013 as well as new opportunities for industrial cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An immersion in the research expertise of IMT Nord Europe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first day, held at the Bourseul and Lahure campuses in Douai, gave the Australian delegation the opportunity to learn about IMT Nord Europe<\/a>\u2019s research activities with a view to exploring opportunities for scientific cooperation, joint publications and collaborative international projects. Discussions focused in particular on digital systems, data science, and energy and environmental technologies. Several flagship laboratories and projects were presented, including the McLeod project<\/a> on the modelling and control of complex systems, as well as initiatives related to indoor air quality, microalgae and energy transitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strengthening international cooperation and innovation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The visit continued in Paris with a strategic meeting held at the Fondation Mines-T\u00e9l\u00e9com<\/a>. The discussions helped to identify the next steps in the partnership and define a joint roadmap to accelerate collaboration in research, innovation and training. A further meeting is scheduled for September 2026 to launch new collaborative initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this partnership with the University of Technology Sydney, one of Australia\u2019s leading technology universities, IMT is reaffirming its strategy of international outreach and its ambition to develop high-level academic alliances in support of major technological, environmental and societal transitions.
