Appointments: Francis Jutand as Deputy CEO and Christian Roux as Director of Research & Innovation

Francis Jutand

Previously Scientific Director of IMT, Francis Jutand became Deputy CEO on June 1st. The Institute is a major public player in France and Europe in higher education, research and innovation in engineering and digital technologies, uniting the Mines and Télécom graduate schools.

 

Short Biography

Trained at ENS Cachan, Francis Jutand began his career at Télécom Paris in 1975 then at Télécom Bretagne from 1992 to 1996. He took over as Scientific Director of France Télécom R&D and contributed to the creation of key technology research networks. In 2000, he became Director of the ICT Sciences department of CNRS and from 2004 worked on the development of competitiveness clusters, particularly Cap Digital where he is still Vice-President of Research and Foresight. In 2006 he was appointed Scientific Director of Institut Télécom, the Télécom schools group and partner of several worldwide ICT Sciences clusters, with Carnot accreditation for the quality of its research in partnership, a major player in the European FP7 and a member of the national alliance Allistène, founded in 2009. Francis Jutand is also one of the founders of the Fondation Mines-Télécom and the think tank, Futur numérique.

Since March 2012, he has been Scientific Director of IMT.

He is also a member of the Conseil National du Numérique and author of the collective work La métamorphose numérique.

Christian Roux

Deputy Director of Mines Saint-Étienne in charge of research and innovation since November 2013, Christian Roux is appointed Director of Research and Innovation at IMT from August 1st 2015. He replaces Francis Jutand, who was appointed Deputy CEO of the Institute on June 1st.

 

Short Biography

Christian Roux is a graduate of ENS Cachan, Physical Sciences associate (1978), Doctor at INP Grenoble (CEA Leti, 1980) and holder of an accreditation to direct research from the University of Rennes 1 (1990). He began his career at the Technology Institute in Caracas (Venezuela) then joined Télécom Bretagne in 1982 where he created the Image and Information Processing department in 1993. In 2201 he founded the Laboratory for Medical Information Processing (a joint unit with Inserm). In 2006, he became Deputy Scientific Director of Télécom Bretagne, then Scientific Director in 2009. In 2011, he was also made Vice-President of Research at UEB (Université européenne de Bretagne).

In November 2013, he joined Mines Saint-Étienne as Deputy Director responsible for research and innovation. Author of around 200 scientific articles and papers and inventor of 10 patents, Christian Roux is a member of the editorial committee of several international journals and has chaired the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. He was mission head at the technology directorate of the Ministry of Research in the health technologies sector (2004-2005), and created and headed the TecSan, ÉmergenceTEC and AAL of the ANR programs (2006-2008). Christian Roux is a Fellow of the IEEE, the AIMBE and the IAMBE. He received the Fundamental Research Prize from Inserm in 2006 and the Claude Fourcade Prize from the Société française de génie biologique et médical in 2015. He is a member of the Scientific Board of ENS Rennes.
